How to protect your skin and avoid hyperpigmentation and other blemishes

February 06, 2022

 Hello, lovelies!

Summer is slowly stepping off the stage and we feel like the Sun is getting shyer as the days go by. This lovely and yet melancholic phenomenon called "Season change" causes us to spend more time out in the open and try to absorb as much golden glitter as possible driven by the desire to prolong the summer feeling inside of us and keep that bronze glow and summer-ish look of our skin for as long as possible. Although it may seem that sun rays are not so strong and damaging at the end of the Summer you can still harm your skin by not giving it the care and protection it needs and end up with burns, hyperpigmentation and blemishes. Hyperpigmentations can stay on our skin for months so the best way to fight this condition is to take steps to prevent it.

How can we protect our skin?

It is quite simple actually. ALWAYS apply sunscreen. Sunscreens are the foundation of skin care and also the best anti-ageing product you could ever find. When choosing the right sunscreen there are few things to keep in mind:

1. There are physical blockers (stationed on the top layer of your skin and they reflect UV rays) and chemical blockers (they go through the skin barrier and selectively absorb UV rays). Combination of those two is what I think works best for me.

2. Choose a sunscreen that protects from both UVB (causes sunburns) and UVA (goes deeper into the skin, causes hyperpigmentation, melasma, rapid ageing)

3. SPF or Sun Protection Factor, is a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect skin from UVB rays it usually goes from 15 to 50+. I personally wouldn't go below 30, and I feel most comfortable with SPF 50+.

4. Formulation. Choose what feels best for you, texture, scent, colour vary from product to product.
To help you decide, I have made a review of two products I opted for this Summer. The first one is

Noreva Exfoliac Mattifying Suncare Fluid SPF50+

This sunscreen protects oily or acne skin from the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays. The texture is light and mattifying, it doesn't leave a sticky feeling and it goes well under makeup. The amazing feature of this product is that it absorbs excess sebum and removes the shine from oily skin, but it doesn't dry out my skin.

My second favourite sunscreen is

Sundance Med Kids Ultra Sensitive Sun Fluid SPF50 +

This one is so well formulated that it fits all skin types, and is especially suitable for sensitive skin (such as mine),  has a light texture, and is very easy applied equally, sinks into the skin quickly. It contains chemical filters that protect from both UVA and UVB rays, doesn't leave a white cast on the skin. Also no sticky feeling!

I hope this post was helpful and interesting for you. If you would like me to continue writing about skincare and reviews of some other products let me know. Also, I would like to know:
