What is "skin undertone"?

Well, my dear, it is the color tone you have that is under your skin. What a jokester I am, really. Basically, that is all there is to it. We all have different skin tones and those tones that we actually see are called "surface tones". But there is more to our skin than just that. Have you ever wondered why gold jewelry looks better on you than silver jewelry? Or maybe you are the opposite, silver jewelry makes you glow while gold just doesn't seem to look right. That is all thanks to the color of your undertone. All undertones are put into these three categories: Warm, Cool and Neutral.

Let's see how you can determine which one you fall into.

The easiest way is to look at the veins on your wrist.

If they look a bit greenish, you are most likely to fit into the "Warm" category. This means that your undertones are most likely to be yellowish, a bit of orange... basically, the colors that are considered warm colors.

If they look a bit purplish, you are most likely to fit into the "Cool" category. These people have undertones that are mostly mixed with blue.

Neutrals can't be determined this way since they fit into both categories.

The other, more old-fashioned way, to determine your undertone is to hold different fabric swatches next to your face.

If the warm-tones fabric swatches look amazing with your skin tone, then you are most likely to fit into the "Warm" category, and vice-versa.

Warm goes with warm, and cool goes with cool.

If you are still a bit confused, then your best option is to go to a make-up salon and ask the assistants to help you find out what color are your undertones.

Knowing your undertones helps you a ton when you are choosing the right foundation for yourself. If you are warm, don't bother with foundations that have a lot of blue inside them. Go and try some of the foundations with yellow. Of course, you still have to try them all out and see which one works best for you.

I have another tip for you here. Don't try to match your foundation with your face. Match it with your neck instead. You will look much more natural if your foundation matches the color of your neck perfectly. The face will follow. Even though it may look a bit too bright at first, everything will work out fine once you cover your whole face in that color. If you are going for a more tanned look, bronzer has your back. But don't use a foundation that is too bright/too dark for you, no offense, but

that looks a bit silly.

FOUNDATION NECK TEST When you are finding a new foundation, it is easy to pick the wrong shade and color. To get the best match possible, most people end up trying it across the wrist or simply holding up the bottle to the face. Instead, take a swatch from near the jawline and down part of the neck. Try at least three different shades, and find the one that most easily blends into the skin
